Buying a ring as a gift is such a beautiful gesture — but getting the size right can feel tricky. Here are a few tips to help you confidently choose a ring that fits and delights the person you're buying for.
1. Borrow One of Their Rings (If You Can!)
If they already wear rings, sneak one away (temporarily!) and measure the inside diameter in millimetres. Then use a UK ring size chart to match the size — or send me the measurement and I’ll help.
2. Ask a Friend or Family Member
If the ring is a surprise, try asking someone close to them who might know their size — or who could help find out casually.
3. Play It Safe with an Adjustable Ring
At Ty Picl, many of my rings are adjustable, which makes them ideal for gifting. They offer flexibility and comfort, especially if you're not 100% sure on sizing. You can gently open or close them at home to suit the wearer's finger. You can have a look at all the rings I make with a big adjustable selection.
4. Go for a Mid-Range Size
If you're guessing, sizes L–P are a good middle ground for most people. If it’s too small, I’m always happy to help adjust it where possible.
5. Include a Ring Sizer in the Gift
Want to make it part of the experience? Add a ring sizer to the gift and include a note saying a custom-sized piece will follow — thoughtful, and lets them choose their perfect fit!
