Buying a ring online can be a bit daunting — especially if you're not sure of your ring size. But don’t worry! Measuring your UK ring size at home is easier than you might think. Here's a simple guide to help you find the perfect fit.
Option 1: Use a Ring You Already Own
If you have a ring that already fits the finger you're buying for:
-
Measure the inside diameter of the ring (in millimetres) using a ruler or digital caliper.
-
Use the chart below to match the diameter to the correct UK ring size.
| Inside Diameter (mm) | UK Ring Size |
|---|---|
| 15.7 | J |
| 16.5 | L |
| 17.3 | N |
| 18.1 | P |
| 19.0 | R |
| 19.8 | T |
(These are approximate, so if you're between sizes, go for the larger one for comfort.)
Option 2: Measure Your Finger
No ring to measure? No problem!
-
Cut a thin strip of paper or use a piece of string.
-
Wrap it snugly around the base of your finger — not too tight, but not loose either.
-
Mark the point where it overlaps, then lay it flat and measure the length in millimetres.
-
Compare the measurement to this chart:
| Finger Circumference (mm) | UK Ring Size |
|---|---|
| 49 | J |
| 51 | L |
| 54 | N |
| 57 | P |
| 60 | R |
| 62 | T |
A Few Tips
-
Measure your finger at the end of the day when it's at its largest.
-
Don’t measure when your hands are cold — they shrink!
-
Remember that your dominant hand might be slightly larger.
Adjustable Rings — A Great Gifting Option
Many of the rings I make are adjustable, which makes them ideal for gifts — especially if you’re not 100% sure of someone’s size. They offer a comfortable and flexible fit and can often be gently resized at home to suit the wearer. It takes the guesswork out of ring shopping and makes giving a meaningful, handmade gift that bit easier.
Whether you’re treating yourself or someone special, adjustable rings are a thoughtful and practical choice.
Still Unsure?
If you're still not sure, I always recommend visiting a local jeweller to get sized professionally — it's quick, free, and very accurate.
